Mammoetsteppe

Mammoetsteppe

Here you see a map of Western Europe in front of you. 20.000 years ago, at the end of the last ice-age, so much water was stored in the ice in Scotland and Scandinavia, that the sea level was 120 metres lower than it is now. It was possible for animals and people to travel from what is now the Continent to the UK and Ireland. Gradually as the earth grew warmer the sea level rose. Most of the bones in the museum were found by local fisherman in the North Sea.
