Hunebed

Hünengrab

A “hunebed” is a megalithic tomb. It seems that the remains of the funeral meal were also buried. The bones were sorted – skulls with skulls, thigh bones with thigh bones etc. The construction consists of upright boulders, with flat boulders on top to form a roof. The spaces in between were filled with stones. This was then all covered with earth which has, in many cases, since disappeared. The large boulders were left behind when the ice receded at the end of the last but one Ice-Age. These tombs have also been found in other European countries.
