In mammals this is usually the bones and teeth. Soft internal organs, muscle and skin decay rapidly and are rarely preserved, except in special circumstances such as in the permafrost. These fossils can tell us much about what the animal looked like, what it ate, what parasites were living in its fur, and, from pollen found, what plants were around at that time. The fossils in this glass case are about 40.000 years old.
